Rebuilding has certainly grown in popularity over the last few years. It’s not so surprising is it?
We as humans love to tinker with things, make our possessions better, supercharge them, and even fix them when they ain’t broken… You get the message. We are what we are.
There are lots of reasons why people decided to get into rebuilding their atomizers. Firstly, as a more seasoned vaper you might want to see how far you can go with new coils, different thickness of wires and even wick variances. Mostly, the big drawcard is a wish to lower a standard resistance (ohms) which results in more heat to the coil of your chosen device.
This creates more heat on the inhale and a bigger and better exhale cloud. Whatever the reason there’s certainly a growing culture that are getting into it for the pure interest and fun of it.

So let’s look at some of the things inherent in rebuilding…
A standard device will come with an inbuilt wire and will differ from type to type, model to model. Some have one coil of wire, some have eight. Eight! Yep…
More coils equal more power. Kind of like a four cylinder car compared to a V8 engine.
One will take you around quite sufficiently, while the other will take you there quicker before your brain even knew you wanted to go. So a rebuildable is just that; an atomizer that allows for customization depending on what you like as an individual vaper.
You may be into customization of coils, or having paid your dues with coils, you may be looking at different kinds of wicks. Whatever your current interest, there are a few ways to get into hacking an atomizer.
Below you’ll find 6 steps to get into rebuilding we’ve put together for you. Hope they give you a pretty good idea of what you’ll need to begin!
Kanthal would seem to be the go-to wire for most rebuilding projects. Kanthal is iron-chromium -aluminum alloy used in high-temperature electrical applications.
Available to you are several other wires to build the coil, but if you’re a beginner stick with, most likely, a spool of 28 gauge annealed (soft) Kanthal.
Depending on how far you want to get into it, you can choose different wire gauges to produce differing output of resistance (OHMs). Customizers chose lower or higher gauge wire to affect the resistance of the coil.
Remember it like this, if it makes things easier:
The higher the number of the gauge (thinner wire) equates to higher resistance.
The lower the number of the gauge (thicker wire) means lower resistance.
If you get into customizing later of you can check out pros and cons of different wires.
Nickel wire, as an example, is said to create a warm flavor and intense clouds. This is a lower resistance wire and needs to be used with caution with beginners.
Titanium wire is available as an option but is really for devices that have a temperature setting. You sometimes need to match a device with the most suitable wire.
There’s a lot to consider which makes things interesting and exciting. The key is that resistance wire must be stable.
But wait! If you move further into rebuilding, I have a few words of warning. You may find you want to have a few different wires, but don’t keep them all together. They seem to breed like rabbits!
Before you know it, you’ll have more wire than forks. Just kidding but yeah, it’s kind of addictive.
It’s really important that the resistance of your coil is checked. You don’t want to fry your battery.
So how do you check the Ohms?
There is an app that can help with calculations, but probably the best way is to get yourself an OHM meter.
What’s the big deal about OHMs? The lower the ohms, the more firepower you have. Capiche?
Hmm, I can almost see the eyes widening with joy.
An OHM meter serves as an invaluable tool, in fact, should be standard in any vaper’s kit. Check out the readings to become familiar with how and what your meter is telling you.
Throw those other guys out of your house… Your Ohm meter is now your best friend.
As we’ve stated before, safety is paramount. Always check you Ohms before firing your atomizer. Always.
